Jr. Optimist Club

Shannon Smith President of Junior Optimists presented the program on November 15.  They have about 30 members.  Hanna Owens is vice-president, Kelsey Preston is secretary, and Brittney Donahue is treasurer.

They start the meeting by telling their highs and lows for the week and the Jr. Optimist creed.

They are very proud of their many projects: TWA, homecoming parade float, face painting, participating in the North-South basketball game, and pennies for leukemia and lymph cancer ($700). They donated $150 to the elementary book club, hooves and paws (in addition to their time).  They also did Cardinal Booth at homecoming, toys for tots, Math-a-thon for St Luke's ($598), helped at Santa's Village, collected food for a local food bank, sold root beer floats ($460) for Live Strong, VonMaur ($566.60), helped with bingo at Treynor Days, and had a scholarship drive for Senior Optimists (three $100).

Shannon Smith enjoys the Jr. Optimists because she feels she has experienced much personal growth.  She became more independent and motivated as well as becoming involved in community activities.  It has helped her with public speaking and gave her pride in the club’s accomplishments.
